Deep Expression

Long I sit,
Staring aimlessly, unwilling to think
with numb, empty mind
That always be
The blue sky with whitish clump of clouds
What a beautiful sight!
Greenish plants and buzzing insects
All live by a rhyme, the natural law
Subhanallah!

Long I sit,
Viewing the past, previous memories
Suddenly come to me, "Why?"
Enough, that's God's matter!
Lonely,dolefully and hopelessly
All combine to become one
An unexplained emotion

Wishes and hopes
since the PAST, or the present
All had been unnecessary
All had been a waste
All seemed beyond the reach
All seemed impossible.......

The question here is,
"Are they already in vain?"
Deep breath, eyes closed
"I don't know...."

Words deep from my soul...

Issue concerning pronouncing God

Assalamualaikumwarahmatullahiwabarakatuh. Greeting back everybody. I hope everybody is in good condition. May ALLAH always guide us with His ‘taufiq’ and ‘hidayah’, Amen. Suddenly, it is coming to my mind to discuss about this topic, pronouncing God. Recently, I had read my friend’s blog and he discussed about this topic. According to him, in one incident he was abruptly yelling “oh my God” when he was accidentally dropping off his coffee (if I’m not mistaken). Hearing to this exclamation, his relative quickly responded by stating, “Hey, don’t say that it is illegal,” Now, can you see the uprising issue? Well it is about it is legal to yell, “oh my God” in English? Thus, I’m going to explain and discuss about this thoroughly according to my own religious knowledge.

It somehow debated in our society whether it is legal to state “oh my God” when yelling or anything else. Most of the people simply reacted to that by stating that is illegal. Why? They claimed such yelling seems similar to how Christians’ yelling. In addition, they also simply refer the word my God in English as the Christianity God. To me, such judgment is without proper religious knowledge. How can if we just stating “oh my God”, then it is illegal just because of that seems similar to Christianity? I say, no! That’s not illegal. People, observe carefully. God means God. While God refers to ALLAH. Try searching in any academic source about the word God. What we will get is God is the Supreme Being, the Ruler of all universes. In certain sources, God directly refers to ALLAH. What about ALLAH? Again ALLAH is God, the Supreme Being, and the Creator of the universe. Some dictionary stated ALLAH is the name used by Muslims to refer God. So, what we can see here is that God is ALLAH and ALLAH is God. No different. The word “rab” in Arabic refers to God, “Tuhan” in Malay is God and God is ALLAH. Again no different. Thus, why people claim it is illegal to yell “oh my God”? Just because that is in English, then it was blamed as imitating Christianity? No!! How about mualaf who are non-Malay and speak English? It is sinful for them to say “oh my God”? No. Masya-ALLAH. ALLAH is The Compassionate and The Merciful One. He will never forbid people to pronounce his name. ALLAH is not that cruel. There is no any sin of saying that. I think there is no any reference in Al-Quran or Hadith stating that is illegal. Is there is any fatwa stating that is illegal? No.

Islam is the religion of toleration. Islam is the way of life for all humans. Islam doesn’t care any different in language, race and culture. The most important thing is the faith toward ALLAH S.W.T. Nothing in the world is better (power, wealth, position) than the good ‘iman’ & ‘taqwa’ to ALLAH Azzawajalla. ALLAH sees nothing on us but only our faith to Him. Remember that. Regarding the issue, it is not illegal to say “oh my God”. That statement is the same with “oh Tuhanku” in Malay. How can if we say “oh Tuhanku” is legal but “oh my God” is sinful? Both of them have the same meaning. Again, there is no any solid proof to prove that is illegal. If we say, “Jesus!”, “Holy Christ!” or “For Christ sake,” then they are all illegal as they directly and clearly imitating the Christians.

It must be noted that Christianity and Judaism worship the same God as in Islam. They also worship ALLAH. But they don’t pronounce ALLAH because ALLAH is in Arabic and the word ALLAH was taught by our prophet Muhammad S.A.W from Al- Quran. For information, the Judaism and Christian followers are referred in Al-Quran as “Ahlul-Kitab” or the People of Book. They are called so because their religions were based on Torah and Injeel but both of them were corrupted. In Judaism, God is too sacred to be pronounced as in the Torah the word God appears as YHWH. Difficult to be pronounced, the Jewish pronounce YAHWEH. In Christianity, the Christians also believe in the Jewish Torah which they refer as the Old Testament. Regarding the YHWH word, they pronounce it as Jehovah instead. For most of the time, they refer God as Lord. However, in accordance with the New Testament which includes the doctrine of Trinity, the word Lord sometimes may refers to Jesus Christ, the person begotten as son of God according to them. In English translation of Al-Quran, the word Lord is used alongside the word God to refer ALLAH. Basically what we got here is that Yahweh, Jehovah, and Lord are the same words referring to ALLAH Taala. Even among Arab Christians, they call God as ALLAH directly except that they believe ALLAH as God The Father of Jesus Christ. See? Three religions worshipping the same God!

In conclusion, it is very clear here that saying “oh my God” is not sinful or illegal. However, my advice is, don’t we know that Islam also teaches us a proper way of yelling? Instead of yelling “oh my God”, better we say “Masya-ALLAH”, “Astaghfirullahalazim”, Subhanallah and “Lailahailallah,”. That is better for us as Muslims. Yell using this way as we also might get reward as well as preventing people from misunderstood us. I hope from my explanation above would help to clear the misconception and confusion of most people out there, Insya-ALLAH.

P.S to readers: If my point of view and my facts above are wrong, please correct me with religious explanation. Thanks.
